Share the Harvest
Share the Harvest, a project of Grace Seeds Ministry, partners with faith communities and other groups to grow vegetables that are then shared with food pantries in our neighborhoods. Our aim: to provide our brothers and sisters who are hungry with healthy, fresh vegetables they would otherwise be unable to afford. Donations from our backyard gardens and from gardens at our growing partner sites combine to make delicious vegetables available at pantries that serve more than 200 families each week. Share the Harvest also seeks to help us grow in our faith as we learn more about hunger and poverty and about God’s call to respond with direct action in our own neighborhoods and communities.
Bethlehem has been a Share the Harvest partner for several years. In our first year, church and home gardeners raised over 600 pounds of fresh produce, which was donated to local food pantries and other food ministries. Every year the harvest grows! About twenty home gardeners have committed to being Share the Harvest partners; some have huge home garden plots, others grow plants in containers on their balcony. Many received free tomato, pepper or cucumber seedlings, with the promise to donate all the produce from that plant to Share the Harvest. Some are planting gardens for the first time and seeking wisdom from our resident “master gardeners”. The majority of the produce comes from the gardens located on the church property, tended by a dedicated team of volunteers.
If you would like to help (no experience required!), email Pastor Jennie at email@example.com or call the church office. Be part of this growing ministry!
